Old Webrings Page This page is included to show how my Old Webrings Page looked before I started with the new format. I have included it to help illustrate some of the motivation for developing the concept of the webring welcome pages. Because this is an old example, the Webrings may no longer exist or I may have left the Webring. In other words, don't expect this page to 'work'. I have also "dummied out" all URLs pointing off my site.
Webrings are interesting web objects. They are communities of websites, united by a common interest and organized into a circular "ring" of mutual links, together with some technology to make it all work. For example, if you you are on a site (say a site with a page devoted to Underwater Basketweaving) you might see a webring link for Underwater Basketweaving. Clicking to the next site on the Underwater Basketweaving Webring will take you to another site for Underwater Basketweaving. In fact, if you click enough you will return to the original site you started with. Webrings permit "next" (going forward), "previous" (going backward), random" jumps and "lists" of all the members of the ring. This page is the jumping off point for all my participation in Webrings. Each Webring has its own section on this page. Each section not only has the specific webring controls to journey through the ring, but it also lists any specific pages on my site relevant to that ring. Currently, I am a member of:

Because it was the second language I taught myself (after Fortran). Because I was once an observer in the Cobol standards committee. Because I've demonstrated repeatedly that Cobol isn't the problem, that anything you can do with any other language you can do as easily in Cobol and that the bias against this language is unfounded. And, because I like [the late] Admiral Grace Hopper.

Webring Sections and Subsections The Webring Section is a large section of my website. I have divided it into four major "subsections".
Each "subsection" has it's own special "logo". As you travel in the various subsections you will find, near the bottom of each page, links to pages within that subsection and also links to the other subsections. To go to any subsection, just click on the "logo" or on the text link for that subsection.
Webrings: General Information This subsection includes general information about webrings. Webrings can be hosted by a variety of different services. This section deals with the overall concepts and issues, not with any one particular "brand" of webring. It includes my Webring FAQ, links to articles about webrings, and general help information. The WebRing.com System This subsection includes specific information about the WebRing.com system. While not the only webring system on the net, it is the best known and the most used. I own many webrings in this system and belong to many webrings in this system. (I also own and belong to many webrings in other systems as well.) Click here or on the graphic.
Webrings I Own and Belong To This subsection shows all the webrings I own and links to all the webrings to which I belong. This includes webrings in Ringlink, RingSurf, Bravenet and the WebRing.com system as well. If you are looking to join one of my webrings, this is a good place to start. The Wazillion Navbars Project This subsection is a historical section about the Yahoo! WebRing system. It was begun during the early days of problems with the Yahoo! WebRing system in September 2000. It ended when the Yahoo! WebRing system spun off into the independent WebRing.com system in October 2001. I maintain it for the historical record. Click here or on the graphic. |
